JOE GIRARD
Joe Girard, also known as “Fro Joe”, is a runner who also dabbles in many other athletic/outdoor adventure activities. Before running, he mainly played basketball and football and continues to enjoy these sports. He began running in 3rd grade as a sprinter/jumper, but after competing at the Junior Olympic Championship in the 4x400 and 4x100, he switched to distance running.
Starting in 7th grade, Joe began running for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. As a runner for Burnt Hills, He enjoyed placing 2nd in the freshmen championship 1600 and 1st in the 3000m Steeplechase his senior year at sectionals. Along with that, He considered it a great honor to compete for such a historic program, including his Coach, Chip Button.
After graduating from Burnt Hills, he headed to the Adirondack mountains for a year at an outdoor adventure/leadership program. Upon completion of the program, he headed to Nyack College which is located in Nyack, NY. He enjoyed competing at the DII level while studying Intercultural Studies. Joe achieved All-Conference status once in Cross Country, and once in Track. He won a conference championship in the 3000m Steeplechase in 2017.
After graduating college, Joe has held various jobs including Life Skills coach and Pizza Maker. He was also given the opportunity to be an assistant coach of the Nyack College Cross Country and Track and Field program. Upon unforeseen circumstances, He was given the opportunity to hold the position of Interim Head Coach of the aforementioned Nyack College program. After relinquishing his position, Joe eventually took on his current full-time job at Amazon as a Sort Associate. Recently, He was hired by Road Runner Sports to be a Part-time Retail Fit Expert. Throughout all these job opportunities, He continued to enjoy outdoor activities with running at the forefront. Currently, Joe resides in Roxborough, PA with his girlfriend Samantha and their plants.
